My Reviews
A lot happens in this book. It was fun to hear other members perspective of the book.
This book is informative and interesting. The author was able to mesh a dark part of history with current times and keep me interested.
Our club is less than a year old and this book is my favorite that we have read so far. The book starts out a little gloomy. I have encouraged people to keep reading and it ultimately gets very interesting. Also, learned more about WWII.
Thought it was a fun read! Learned about different places and people.
I am a dog lover and love to read about the human/canine relationship. This is an easy, fun and enjoyable read.
I really didn't want to read this book when our club selected but am so glad that we read it! This is one of the best books our club has read!
I was really interested in learning Irish customs and way of living even though this is a fictional book. To sum up, this is a fun read about a young man and his challenges in life. It also was interesting how a neighborhood (friends and family) will look after each other in life.
This is an eye opening book about Esther and her conflict with her upbringing/religous views and her love of art. The ending is a surprise!
Our club is only reading book one, but I went out and purchased book two and three after reading Fifty Shades of Grey. EL James is somehow able to captivate you into the main characters, Anna and Christian. I would classify this as a summer beach read!
I have not read any of EH's work and I think I would have enjoyed the book more if I knew more about EH. I did enjoy, learning about post WWI, Paris and places the Hemingway's visited in Europe. The book is well written. I became a fan of Hadley and her life as she grew as a wife and mother.
I loved the way Linda Francis Lee pulled the characters together. At the beginning, I was thinking that the book was too far fetched to enjoy. My advice: Keep reading.
Our book club read Paris Wife and had a lengthy discussion about Ernest Hemingway. This book is about when he is married to Pauline (wife #2) in Key West during the 1930's and their housekeeper.
This book is well written. It was the characters that I didn't care about. Most people in our BC did not like the ending.
Most in our club liked the book! I thought the book took interesting turns and twists. The author used good descriptions of Australia.
This book is about how people think about time. The main characters are Dor, Sarah and Victor. I was able to read it in two airplace rides. I would recommend this book!
Absolutely loved this book! It is about Rachel who develops lepracy or Hansen's disease. She is separated from her family to live on the island of Molokai. She is separated from her family and this book is about how she deals with life with the disease.
Loved the book! If a person has gone through cancer, you will be able to relate to the ups and downs. Sometimes I wonder how much tragedy a person can endure? I also enjoyed the first part of the book about Carole growing up and her background. I could relate to some of her crazy family members.
This book is about 3 characters and their families, and how they are intertwined because of a "husband's secret". If you like suspense in trying to figure out how the book will end..I recommend that you read it!
This is not a book that I would not have read on my own but am very glad that I did read it. This book is about Amanda, a young Canadian, that loves to travel. She ended up in the Middle East and then Africa. She then is kidnapped in Somalia and held for ransom for 15 months. The book is about her experiences being held as a hostage and what she does in life following. Our club did discuss the concern that Amanda put herself in such a dangerous situation. I felt the book was well written.
Our book club has been struggling as we have read many dark books. This book was selected on the basis that we did not want to read another dark book.
The book is about two characters, Emma current and the life of her grandmother, Beattie. Grandma has many secrets in her past that her family did not know about. Emma inherits her ranch. As she is going through her grandma's belongings, Emma learns and tries to put the pieces of her past together. The only part I did not care for was the ending.
This is a very interesting book about the Lindbergh family. Our club had a great discussion about the book and it was interesting to learn the many perspectives of Anne.
If you like historical fiction, then you will like this book!
We felt like this book was like reading a history book in school at some parts. A very interesting time in USA's history.
This is a great read! Our club selected it without really knowing anything about the book on a recommendation. It is great to learn of America's history and what has happened in NC. It is about Jane and Ivy. Jane is a social worker and Ivy is very poor living on a tobacco farm. How their lives intertwine and work towards a better life for Ivy. The ending is great.
