My Reviews
It was readable but I can't say it was mesmerizing or that i couldn't put it down.
Not sure what all the fuss was about and have definitely read better. If I had purchased it I would have been even more unsatisfied.
I wish it had had more about the historical events and less about specific characters. I would have liked a multitude of stories about the orphan train rather than centering on a few. It all seemed rather cold and gloomy at some points. I\\\\\\\'ve readmore gripping children\\\\\\\'s books on the topic
I listened to the audio recording of this title and was unable to stop some nights to get to sleep. It just sucked you in and made you want to hang in there with the characters to see what was going to happen next.
I did think that with all the action and events in the first 7/8 of the book it ended rather weakly. I know that some may find Zamparini\\\'s feelings of redemption at the end inspiring , but it felt a little flat and impersonal to me.
as always, Hollywood may massacre this book so I recommend reading it now. Don't come looking for happy warm fuzzies, this book is set in the ramp up to the Cold War in the still forming Soviet Union.
It was enough interesting information to keep me reading until I finished it. I find myself interested in finding more to read on the subject.
