My Reviews
I loved how the author gave a human face to a tragic historical event, as well as created modern, compelling characters. The movement between past and present was seamless.
If you've ever waited tables, you will appreciate the humor in this book! It was a light, easy read, and a nice break from the heavier topics we have read about lately.
As a parent, this book is hard to read at times, but intriguing nonetheless. It is a story of overcoming adversity and thriving against the odds. I especially loved how the author described her sometimes horrible life circumstances in a matter-of-fact way. She didn't whine or express regret, but simply told her story in a compelling way. I would definitely recommend this book!
I read this book after my 14-year-old son recommended it, and I went into it with skepticism. But once I read the first few chapters, I couldn't put it down! Quick read, and it's entertaining, in spite of the dark subject matter.
I'm sure that I am in the minority in that I didn't love this trilogy, but the last book was especially disappointing. The love story felt contrived, even cheesy. I think the author struggled more with this story line than the graphic, explicit content of the first two books. I was vaguely interested in how it would end, so I plodded through it, but I didn't love it.
I highly recommend this book!
