My Reviews
I enjoyed the adventure and the humor in the book. I didn't really care either way about the characters but I thought the descriptions of life on the edge of the 'lawless' Indian territory was fascinating.
Hillenbrand does a great job researching and then assembling this amazing story. Her writing kept me glued to the pages - I couldn't stop myself from exclaiming "oh my G-d!" several times while reading the accounts of Zamperini beating off the sharks that were circling his leaky life raft. Reading the accounts of the prison camp was difficult, but knowing that he is STILL ALIVE TODAY kept me reading.
This guy is a kick-ass survivor! Reading about his life sure helped me keep my own 'struggles' in perspective :-)
This book starts very bleak, written from the perspective of an introspective book-loving adventurous 7 year old boy with no friends. But as the story builds steam we cheer as he finds a friend in a non-human being in the body of an eleven year old girl. And what an adventure he lives!
