My Reviews
Intriguing format - two women narrators, in a book written by a man. Thought provoking, amusing and yet dark undertones. A good read and good book for lots of lively discussion.
A heartwrenching story which shows the amazing power of the human spirit to overcome adversity , and the destructive and evil nature of others. Not a literary masterpiece, but a well written account of a little publicized atrocity.
Not the best writing - timeline quite confusing at times - but a fascinating story sure to provoke some intense discussion.
interesting but far-fetched and confusing
The eugenics program which features in this book was just one aspect which had me intrigued and got our book club talking. The varying backgrounds and roles of women in this book was another thought provoking element and made us all glad we weren\'t trying to pursue a career in the 1960\'s! A well written and engaging story based on a true life situation, with themes very applicable to today.
What is normal behavior? This book really made us think about that as we smiled our way through this amusing AND thought provoking book.
Our entire group agreed- too long and too self indulgent, would possibly have worked as a magazine article. We just could not relate to the feelings of the author.
this book is well written and describes the physical and mental torment of the characters equally well. a very thought provoking read about plantations, slavery and the role of women and mothers
Beautifully written book with breathtaking descriptions , but never too wordy. A thought provoking story with engaging characters set in a troubled time which caused much food for thought about the forces of good and evil and how different people react to the best and worst of the world.
