My Reviews
I found the story began well enough, but as it continued it seemed to have no where to go. I felt the author was getting her ideas as she was writing and didn't have a strong plot line. I did find the description of the Village and Italy to be well written.
Excellent book for discussion group. Makes you wonder and think about the "what ifs" in life.
This book was about a historic account of kidnapping in the USA that was hard to believe. The author did an amazing job of bringing to life the children, their feelings, and how awful it was for the parents who lost their children.
I was introduced to this book at an author luncheon, and was captivated at once. He explained the Moscow setting, time period, and surroundings which added so much to my enjoyment of the story.
This book became alive only after our book discussion. We explored the time period and found out about a generation of people like Cece who were struggling with the aftermath of 'a war to end all wars'. We tended to agree the structure was a bit confusing.
I read this for a bookclub discussion and everyone of us said it was one of the best reads we’ve had. Most memorable.
I read this with book club group. We had a fine discussion. I was particularly interested in the story of the Breakers Hotel throughout. I found the information about its tie with WWII enlightening. I did find the characters and their ties confusing.
