My Reviews
I know that most of our group did not like it but I found the main character to be very funny. It was really about a small town, the people, etc. I know that there was a mystery with the missing girl, but I thought it was just part of the towns story. To be taken as only that, and not something to dwell on.
It was a hard read. It was difficult to understand the characters, and where the story was going. If you flip through the book there are several pictures. They have no meaing without reading the story. Most of my club couldn't finish the book. But I will say that if you stick with the story it does come together at the end. Our group discussed the book, and watched the movie. For me, the movie connected the dots very well. It also gave a more visceral feel to the story. I suggest that other clubs combine the two for a better experience.
The setting is early 1900's Wisconsin. Don't let that throw you off. It could have been set in anytime. The 3 main characters are very engaging. Although there is a darkness to the story, there is also hope. There are several surprises in the story that will give you food for thought. Nice too is that you might find this at your library as it is a couple years old.
Its' Cindrella gets kinky! To many times I wanted to grab Ana and say "What are you thinking!" I gave her a break because she is young, and pretty dumb. It has some interest in just trying to get a handle on where Christian is coming from. And it kept me interested enough to see what happens in book 2. Just finished book 2, and need a break from it all. Will probably be awhile before I think about finishing the trilogy.
