My Reviews
We chose this book because we loved Tatiana De Rosnay's first book, Sarah's Key, so much. We all agreed that this was not of the same quality. That said we did enjoy the book although the characters were not as likable and somewhat confusing at times, which left us with much to discuss. The end left us with questions that were never answered. All in all, the book was ok but not one of our favorites.
Most of our group was a little leery about this selection but once they started reading they changed their minds. Very powerful with a lot of thought provoking messages. It was definitely worth reading.
This was an interesting novel although an understanding of Kabbalah would have been helpful. It does present many thought provoking ideas about science, religion and love which make for much discussion. It was enjoyed by most of the group, although not one of our favorite reads.
Vern Hobbs is a first time author although he is not a stranger to writing. His novel Flying Fish combines his knowledge of sailing, marine life and the trials of making a living on the water. He brings the characters of Juniper Key to life as they face difficult changes to their community. The characters come together to save their town and their way of life. It was a fun read that was enjoyed by our book club.
