My Reviews
This book is a perfect blend of medical intrigue, human relationships, and love. The author explores love of work and personal love and the results of trying to balance the two. Excellent book!
A fantastic look at how science and religion compete to give our lives meaning.
Everyone in our book club enjoyed reading "Outliers." Half of us were surprised by the assertions made in the book, half were not. I found the book to be fascinating, and it provoked good conversation as well as introspection.
Slow start (had trouble getting through the first 1/3), but I'm so glad I finished the book. Very insightful narration, journey into stream of consciousness. Unpredictable ending! I understand after reading the whole book that the first 1/3 was necessary to set up the characters and plot. However, it took a while to get used to very long paragraphs and run-on sentences. Once I became accustomed to his style I got really into the book. Great book club discussion as everyone had a very different opinion of the book.
This was one of our book club's highest rated books; everyone enjoyed it. I loved the intertwining of characters and themes that wasn't necessarily revealed to the reader until the end. The format was unique, including a 12-year-old girl's powerpoint presentation. I was fascinated with the author's version of the near future.
This is a great crime novel that vividly places you in 1940's Washington DC. Elements of noir give us a flawed and lovable hero and big city corruption.
Everyone in our book club thoroughly enjoyed this book- sci fi fans and non-fans alike. The ideas presented by Ursula Le Guin are fascinating and discussion worthy. What is utopia and is it even possible?
