My Reviews
Quoyle's journey begins with his decision to return to the community in Newfoundland where his father was born. It's a place where he can find new friendships and committed relationships in a small closely-knit community.
Prouix' characters are interesting and quirky - each has a distinctive "voice" and contribution to Quoyle's personal journey.
Our book club selected this book by accident, and it turned out to be one of our favorites !! It's got a little of everything -- modern history, developing technology, and murder mystery.
Kind of a "grapes of wrath" story of a difficult life.
why the family continued following Nathan Price.
Who are the group "leaders" in survival situations? Interesting roles evolved in this story of 4-1/2 months of captivity. Relationships emerged between captors and captives.
The "action" in the beginning of this story was actually (for me) the least interesting part of this book. It started slow for me, but about 1/3 into it, I got hooked into the individual stories and evolving relationships.
What do people do to survive when they're under the control of a mad man? Why didn't they simply walk away? They knew what would happen to the family members they left behind.
I can't wait to share this with others in my bookclub.
