My Reviews

Bullet Park by John Cheever

Bullet Park

Although the book started off well, it seemed disjointed and I found the ending very disappointing. Cheever is clearly a gifted writer, but didn't seem to really flesh out the characters.

Good book, very quick to read. A bit scary in parts as you imagine the crazies out in the world, but also a tale of remarkable resilience and hope. It gives a lot of insight into what the world would be like if you literally dropped in from another planet and was very thought provoking.

Insight into Hasidic lifestyle

I found this book to be very informative and well written. It was amazing to see how sheltered in this day and age you can still be while living in the NY metropolitan area. This is a very interesting book full of information that I had no idea about. It is a quick read. While I would have liked a longer book with more follow up of how her life ended, still strongly recommend.

The Innocents by Francesca Segal

Unconvincing, Pointless, Boring
The Boring Innocents

Since I had heard The Innocents was a take on the Age of Innocence, I actually read the Edith Wharton book first. In comparison The Innocents was simplistic, boring and too predictable. It is fine for an easy beach read, but wold not really recommend.

Wolf Hall: A Novel by Hilary Mantel

Wolf Hall is wonderful

Wolf Hall is a long book and sometimes hard to keep all the names straight, but it is a great read about the story of Henry VIII and Anne Bolyn. Very addictive and as I got further into the book hard to put down. I am not typically a fan of historical fiction, by Hilary Mantel writes so beautifully that I can't wait to read her follow up book, Bringing up the Bodies.

The Irresistible Henry House

The premise of the book was interesting and the more I read and got into Henry's character the more interesting the book became. Some great psychological insights into child rearing how it impacts the child's adult life. Thought the characters were all very well thought out and I came to really care about what happens to Henry as he gets older. This is a sleeper hit that I strongly recommend.
