My Reviews
I enjoyed this book from the minute I started reading it. Is was so beautifully written; you could feel the music and the sounds in every word. I have recommended this book to my book club and I will lead the discussion in November.
My book club read this book along with A Moveable Feast. We also went and saw the movie Midnight in Paris which relates to both books. This was an easy read with an interesting perspective on the decadent lives of Hemingway's friends and the challenges Hadley faced trying to keep up with everyone.
This story of a woman who goes through life doing the only thing she really knows how to do - cook. Her French mother instills a love of food in her at an early age and when her parents divorce she rebels, but always finds herself working in a kitchen. Her descriptions of the New York catering business are eye opening and life as a camp cook are entertaining. Her family life is very confusing, but her success as the owner of a famous restaurant is admirable.
