My Reviews
We have a lot of varied book tastes in our club and this book was univerally liked. Many of our members have gone on to gift this book to others or at least recommend it. For the gardeners in our group the flower meanings were extremely interesting and thought-provoking.
Our book club really enjoyed reading this book. We loved the quirky protagonist and the story. Really keeps you engaged.
The main character, Julie never seems to grow beyond her teenage self. Sometimes the flow of the book seemed so mundane that it was hard to stay engaged. Other characters in the book also seemed stuck in a life flow that they could not move past. Our book club had a fairly good discussion of the book but the majority of the members would not give it a high recommendation.
Stay with it; it's a little slow in the beginning, but we think that reflects his life at the hotel initially. The low-key humor and characters in the book only get better and better throughout the book.
Our club loved the title character and his life at the hotel and how it evolved over time. Although born into privilege he remained a humble gentleman when his circumstances changed, not forgetting those who had made a difference in his life.
