My Reviews
What our club loved about this book was it gave us a lot to discuss. A few were squeamish re reading it, but it's not overly graphic by any means. The writer brilliantly gets into the narrative mind of a young child.
Mixed reviews from our club. Most of us liked the WWII story, but the present day one left us cold. The protagonist was insipid and the writing not up to the WWII topic.
Most of us loved the book, although personally, I found myself slogging through the last third. Not that it was bad (unlike the last third of Pillars of the Earth), it was just too much more of the same. The main problem our group had was we found nothing much to discuss with this book.
Really enjoyed this book. He's a wonderful writer. It provided a lot of laughs and a peek into a culture I had no clue about.
Our club loved this book. I think it's our favorite this year. We found ourselves reading our favorites lines to each other and laughing all over again. The best part, and the reason for 5 stars was the discussion. Although on the surface, this book is just a breezy, light, fun read, it actually provides a lot of inspiration and food for thought.
Wonderful look into a time not so far long ago. We also enjoyed the discussion and plan to attend the movie as a group.
This was a light, but most of us felt, pointless read in the end. It's really written at the level of a sort of modern romance without much romance. Don't really understand all the hype.
