My Reviews
The fact that this book very closely follows the actual events of this woman's life made the story even more intriguing. What really happened?
This is very light reading.
A consumptive heroine has many adventures as she travels West in search of her 2nd-rate artist lover and is people by many quirky characters and happenings. I found this book to be an enjoyable read but some in our book club thought it was a bit too quirky - especially the characters. This author's previous book, "Mirabalis" also had many quirky characters and events. Breath and Bones is borderline magical realism so if you like that writing style you'll probably enjoy this read and find much to discuss.
Allende's storytelling is at it's best as she brings the reader into the trials, tribulations, and joy of her tribe. In this memoir Isabelle Allende writes from the heart sharing her delightful sense of humor and pragmatic approach to life in all its ebb and flow. My favorite Allende book after The House of the Spirits.
A beautifully written story about what seems like an average Midwestern family during the 30s,40s,50s. Appearances are deceptive as each character has a surprise in store for the reader. The book has interesting turns and gives a heartfelt insight into a particular time and place. Was really a delicious summer read.
