I loved this book!! This book takes you back to the days of the war, and lets you live through the days of being a Japanese-American or Chinese-American following the attack on Pearl Harbor. When a little Chinese-American boy befriends an Japanese-American girl at school only for her to me sent off to the camps for "her own protection". He does everything possible to see her and her family. Sorry, I can't put into words the level this book touched me!

If only all children in Cee Cee's sad predicament could have a rich aunt sweep in and save them. The begining is heart wrenching, watching Cee Cee basically raising her mother,while her father left on business and whatever else he was doing to keep himself gone. The shame Cee Cee had to deal with in town, as everyone knew her as the daughter of the dress up lady. Her only peace and escape was her books. The only good thing and right thing her father did was handing her over to her aunt. Thankful she had the kind neighbor next door to help her and be her confidant. The aunt and her housekeeper/friend turned into a true blessing. I wish more kids had a happy ending like Cee Cee.

The HELP is an excellent written book. It discusses the horrible way we treat people, if you look deeper, not only the help! It discusses how the "help" are treated as those they are not even present in a room. When a group of them get together and write down their life stories, and the stories of their employers, well lets just say the little town where they live is all shook up. Yet no one wants to admit its them, or all their dirty secrets would be out!! It's excellent story!!
