My Reviews
Our book club loved this book. This book was not only informative, but it was also the source of a great discussion!
Practically ripped from the headlines, this book was another selection our book club enjoyed. At times, the book can give you chills and can be a difficult read for some due to the subject matter. The book is very well written.
Although this book is a "young adult" favorite, a not-so-young adult will enjoy this book. The book moves quickly and is a great start to the trilogy.
Generally speaking, our club enjoyed the book. We gave kudos to the author for taking the subjects of antique photos and weaving an interesting story together. It was an entertaining read.
The premise and bones of the book are intriguing. However, the execution fell short. Our book club had a lengthy discussion about the story, it's many twists and turns. Then, about the author's many forays into gender and African-American history. Topics that are interesting when written about properly and purposefully. However the tone was condescending and out of place in the story. Read this book if you are looking for a heated discussion with your book club.
I was transported to Ethiopia in this book. Most of our book club enjoyed a great portion of the book (while the story was set in Ethiopia). There are so many layers to this well-written book, I highly recommend it to everyone.
The majority of our book club found this book to be a bit flat and irritating. In our club are Hemingway fans and we were intrigued by the description; a lot of us had high hopes for the book. I wanted so badly to like the book but found it hard to get through.
This book is one that you have to talk about once you've finish the last sentence.
