I loved how I never imagined I could empathize with the character and then was swept away by the beauty and complexity of the protagonist's life and pain. I think there's a nod to the Emperor's New Clothes here. Morally challenging, complex, funny, witty, and full of heart.

Lovely writing and point of view many of us don't have the opportunity to see/understand. Great plot but powerful insights on race relations and the human condition without it feeling over the top.
