My Reviews
I felt the story was slow to start but after about page 60 or so it was an easy read. I do not know if I can completely believe the little boy, Colton's experience but there were some thought provoking aspects to it. I wouldn't necessarily recommend it but if is the suggested book of your group it is worth the read. If you are looking for a book that will introduce questions about religion, personal beliefs and Heaven than this is a book you are looking for.
Some people in our group have parents will dementia and it provided them with insight and some comfort. To those of us who do not have a personal attachment we felt it provided a lot of information, was well written and insightfully told.
This book provided me with some history while keeping me engaged in a dramatic story. There were two stories wrapped delicately into one. I was most pleased with the book which was a recommendation from fellow readers. The film was done well and proved to be more dramtic and much moreof a tear jerker for me.
This book was highly recommended to me by a friend. I borrowed it from my local library on my Nook and it took me three separate 2 week lending periods to get through it. The story was fine but is was lacking. I just was not that interested in it. I do have 2 boys and a full time job so I prefer books that quickly suck me in and that I just can't put down.
This was a fun story. I could totally get into the characters but the events were not realistic. At least not to me and the life I live.
I thought this novel was wonderful. I read it with the first book club that I was in. It was a page turner, tear jerker, laugh out loud and cover your mouth in surprise kind of book. A great read!!
Easy read, interesting concept, read it in a couple days.
Basically if you have read the first two you have to read this but it is rushed and not as good as the others. I was not completely satisfied with it.
This book completely pulled me in. It was written in such a way that I felt like I could hear, see, smell, and feel the things aound me. It was a good story. Each character came to life for me. I highly recommend the book. However the film was not so good.
Half of our group enjoyed it and the others strongly disliked it. We felt either you connected with the characters, the time and events or you read it as a woman of today and could not relate or understand. It was good enough but didn't really lend itself to great discussions.
If you enjoy Jodi Picoult books then you will enjoy this.
Overall everyone in our group enjoyed this trilogy and did actually read all three books although only the first was the chosen book for the month. It was interesting to read about a lifestyle none of us are familiar with. We all felt a little more adventurous in the bedroom during and after reading it. It wasn't written well but it was easy.
Ana becomes slightly annoying. Christian becomes too controlling. But you have to read it to see what happens next.
I enjoyed the way the book ended and was particularly satisfied with the epilogues.
I thought this story was fine. It was interesting enough. I like the narrator but found the story to be slightly drawn out. I feel like things could have moved a little faster. It was an easy read.
Overall we agreed that the book was fine. We found some discussion question on the web. We all shared the same thoughts and therefore there wasn't much of a discussion. We feel like the author didn't develop many of the characters enough, including Jacob. We only really had a feel for Andy. There was time spent on introducing characters and situations (the jury selection) that really weren't relevant to the story.
Lisa Genova is an author I will be watching for. Left Neglected was another great story that was well written, interesting, eye opening and based on a real condition not widely spoken about.
I enjoy reading stories that are set in a place that is foreign to me. I am interested in reading about events that are beyond my reality. I appreciate a well written novel that makes me feel like I am a part of a culture I knew little about. This book met my needs.
This novel had drama, suspence, twists and turns. Gillian Flynn gets you to feel empathy in one part and causes you to despise the very same character in the next part. Flynn had amazing twists and turns that kept you reading until the end. Great book!
I really enjoyed this book. It isn't really a great discussion book but it is good beek to read and get lost in. I enjoy Kristin Hannah. I was attached to the characters and found myself crying while reading. I recommend this book if you are looking to get lost in a good book.
When She Woke was realistic enough while futuristic and unfamiliar. I enjoyed the paradox between how Hannah\\\\\\\'s family lived life and their culture against the idea of Chroming and technology and control of the government. Hannah\\\\\\\'s character was developed well. There was opportunity for good discussion.
Majority of the ladies in our book club read the entire book in one session. It was a book we couldn\\\'t put down. The story line was creative and there were so many twists and turns it kept you reading until the end. The conversation at our meeting was great as well.
Overall I wasn\\\'t thrilled with the book. I wasn\\\'t looking to read a self-help type book and didn\\\'t feel like I could connect to much of what was written. I consider myself to be a strong woman and I don\\\'t have many fears. Some of us decided to read just certain sections that we thought would relate best to us personally. We were to pull up a good discussion question link and had great conversation.
