My Reviews
The plot and characters are interesting, but the story goes all over the place. I wouldn't recommend taking the time to read it.
Our book group enjoyed the book and found a lot to discuss. While baseball was important to the story, the book was much more than a book involving a sport. The characters were interesting, well developed and each at tipping point in life. Very realistic. A good read.
This is a typical Jody Piccoult book. The issue in this book is about the right to die decisions. Each side is presented well and it is very relistic as far as how torn people in the family are about making these decisions. She also puts in an interesting side story about wolves and includes much information about how wolves live and intereact in their pact. Of course there are several surprise twists which are usual in Piccoult's novels. It provided a lot of fodder for discussion for our book group. We think it's a great book for book groups to choose.
Our group liked the book but felt the author lost her way about two thirds of the wy through the novel. While the plot was a good idea, it didn't seem as if the author developed it fully.
Our book group enjoyed the book overall, but felt that some of the characters were a bit too stereotypical and off generationally. In other words, we felt the one character who was of our generation was more like our fathers' generation in character. While we did enjoy the story, we felt that some of the things weren't tied up at the end and some of the ending was just too negative for all the characters making it a bit unrealistic.
I always enjoy her booksS
Our book group did this book and everyone enjoyed reading and discussing it. The author is a great writer and tells a wonderful story. I can't wait to read his next book.
Our book group loved this. We were all saddened by the ending, but we felt it was realistic. A great book to discuss.
We saw it as more of women who grew up in the 60's, and it resonated with us. Since our group had many things in common with her, we had a lot of discussion on the themes.
It was a different take on an interesting issue. Not so much about hypnosis as some of us feared. Definitely worth reading. It was a great discussion book.
This was a good read and provided a lot of issues for discussion.
A good story.
Our book enjoyed the story and characters. We also found this book provided us with many topics for an interesting discussion.
Worth reading but we didn\\\'t find much to discuss. No one really liked any of the characters very much. We could see the book being made into a movie.
Our group liked the character development and the unique aspects of the story but found some of the connections a little bit contrived. It did allow for some interesting discussion.
This provided us many issues to discuss. it also connected well with the problems going on today related to "Black Lives Matter."
It was a great story, had interesting characters and a timely theme. Everyone enjoyed reading it.
Our bookclub enjoyed reading about this time in history and finding out especially about the orphans who went to Africa.
Members of our group liked reading this book and it provided several topics for an interesting discussion. The twist at the end made it even better.
I actually listened to this as an audiobook. It was read by the author. I found it to be beautifully written and insightful. It certainly taught me things about plants and science. I'm glad I listened to it.
