My Reviews
I found this book to be disturbing and more than a little over the top as far as sexual exploitation of children goes. It left me with a chilling feeling. However, I did find the character, Ephraim, to be understanding, forgiving and loving.
I liked the book overall. Reading about familiar places made the story more interesting, but I was disappointed that the ending left me hanging. Of course, it is a trilogy, so I assume one would have to read the other two books to satisfy all the mysteries that began with the first book.
I found this book to be very informative regarding the internment of Japanese-American people during WWII. It was very sad to know how these citizens were treated during that tumultuous time in the history of the U.S. The relationships of the characters were deep and long-lasting. I would highly recomment this book.
This book is written from a dog's perspective of human behavior. It has many emotional aspects to it. If you are a dog owner, you will definitely like this book. Our club has a rating system of 1-5 (1=bad; 5= great). The overall consenses was a 4.5. This is a good read and definitely a good book for discussion.
This book has everything - love, drama, historical references, sadness and joy. Keep the Kleenex handy, as there are some very poignant and heartfelt parts to this story. Well written; couldn't put it down. My entire bookclub gave it an overwhelming rating of 5!
