My Reviews
This book was beautifully written, and an interesting illustration of life in Ceylon in the 1800s. It also depicted the racism and classism of the time.
I liked the way time was woven throughout the book. The author had some profound observations, and I enjoyed the complexity of the characters.
The book is beautifully written about a dark time in Argentinian history told from a young boy's perspective. I thought the book was poignant and made me think...
I loved this book. The juxtaposition between the present and the past was effective, and the redemption that Sheldon is able to achieve was inspiring.
This book is not a novel, but the real story of a man who was burned alive for defying the religious "norms" of the time. It is an extremely informative history of catholicism, the reformation, the printing press, medical practices of the time, and book collecting.
I love books like this that are full of information that I wouldn't ordinarily think about.
