Toggling between present day and Arthur Conan Doyle's life (late 1800s/early 1900s) and tying the two together in typical Sherlock Holmes style, Graham does a good good of keeping the reader engaged, entertained and thinking. It was an enjoyable and easy flowing read.
The Spellman series is written with a fresh point of view, providing insights into the Spellman dysfunctional family unit, their business (private investigations) and interactions. The books flow freely through their stories and engage the reader in much the same manner as an old friend with a fabulous story to tell. Sure, there are mysteries to solve; but the real draw is the personalities of the characters themselves.
