My Reviews
Last night I discussed Envious Moon with my book club and the author. Prior to this, we weren't familiar with Thomas Greene's work, but had won copies through Book Movement.
We discovered that the book had hooked us all. It was not just that it was an enjoyable book to read, but it worked on multiple levels, with surprising depth and intriguing characters, so there was much to talk about - a very good choice for a group.
It didn't hurt that the setting was a seaside village. We felt very much at home.
Interesting twists and fully developed characters with a depth that I would not have expected in a mystery.
We were very excited with what we thought might be a look inside a culture that is very mysterious and potentially exciting, but instead we found that the author highlighted a number of cultural characteristics that did not reflect well on this group. As each new family was introduced, I would have expected to gain greater insight, but little new was added with each passing page. There must be more to the gypsies.
