My Reviews
Our club just had a spirited discussion of Noah's Flood. Some members were more intrigued by the geology, others by the language elements, still others by the world-wide scope of information assembled by the authors to buttress their argument.
I've rated this book "fun" but also "boring" and "pointless". Some of the descriptions are comic enough to make you smile, though not laugh out loud. They go on, however, much too long. In the end, the questions of faith, loyalty, family, and good vs. evil are handled in a way that left me cold.
This biography of Cleopatra makes careful use of all the ancient sources -- factoring in their spins -- to arrive at a cohesive view of the iconic ruler. A central theme is the debunking of the image of seductress in favor of brilliant strategist.
