My Reviews
Journey From the Land of No: A Girlhood Caught in Revolutionary Iran is one of the most gripping accounts of life in Iran.
This novel's impact stayed with me long after finishing the last page. Hosseini's story of friendship, betrayal, and redemption is epic in scope and long on feeling. I can't wait for his next offering.
The general concensus was that the book dragged too long and needed to get to the crux of things sooner. We collectively felt we could not care about the protagonist or most of the other characters in the novel. However, the ending had many twists and turns which kept us on our toes. I would try another book by the author.
Jodi Picoult knows how to tug the heart strings-minus the sap you would think the storyline calls for. Told in rotating first person, thus getting the respective characters subjective thoughts of events, My Sister's Keeper brings much to discuss for groups. The family dynamic- or in this case, dysfunction- designer babies, genetics, loving unconditionally, sacrifice, and where exactly do lines cross.
