My Reviews
At times it felt as though I was reading a science textbook. The subject is fascinating but I wish there was more emphasis on the family rather than the science. I would recommend the book though.
I don\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'t care for books of this genre but always read the club\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'s selection, regardless of whether or not it was something I might ordinarily choose to read. I gave this one a try but just could not get interested in it. 2 others in my club also attempted to read it but gave up as they too were bored with it. Only 2 finished it - the person who selected it for the group because she had already read it and loved it. The other person in the club who finished it did not particularly care for it either. The others in the club were not the least bit interested in the story based upon a reading of the book jacket and chose to not even attempt to read it.
A real eye-opener to the way things used to be for those with disabilities.
Very suspenseful. The end was a little unsettling but I would definitely recommend the book.
I cannot believe the fortitude of this woman. I do admire her for what she accomplished. When running from my car into my home on cold, wintry evenings I think about her lying in her tent on the mountain during various snowstorms. brrrrr. It makes me sad that Cheryl had to experience all the great loss in her life in order to take this amazing journey.
Very thought-provoking, there are no easy answers to the "what would you do" question, from the point of view of any of the characters. I feel you can both justify and criticize each move made by each character. A great story but I will note that there was some Australian slang/jargon that I did not understand.
My club was divided on this book - some loved it but others could not get through it. I think it may help to think of this book more like a collection of short stories since each chapter was devoted to a different character and their stories really didn\\\'t form a cohesive plot. I do not highly recommend the book, it was just okay and actually somewhat dreary.
I loved this book - the characters were all so richly drawn that I felt as if I truly knew them.
This is one of the few books that I just stopped reading. I ended up paying the maximum fine at the library & just returning it without even finishing the book. It was so boring! It was also filled with a lot of English slang that I did not understand.
I really liked each of the characters in the book; however, there was nothing really that tied them together. It was as if each chapter was it's own short story.
