My Reviews
This book is well-written and an interesting story of a young woman's struggle to love herself and others. I found the character's behavior frustrating at times but did enjoy learning about flowers and plants and their meanings. However, it did bother me that many of her meanings of certain flowers did not match what we consider them to be now! The book did keep me interested and in anticipation of the reveal of what had happened in the main character's childhood and what was to happen to her as an adult. This book made for great conversation at our book club meeting!
"The Shoemaker's Wife" is a beautifully written story of two young immigrants who overcome life's obstacles to achieve the American Dream and find each other! The book takes us from small villages in Italy to the crowded streets of New York City to the development of a city in Minnesota! And covers a very interesting time in our country, and the world, the first half of the 20th century. Our Book Club found many things to discuss with this book: fate, love, faith, family, friendship, and even the Opera! We all enjoyed it.
I completely enjoyed this book! It is a modern book with deep roots in medieval type-setting and publishing! The author\\\'s obvious love of books is infectious to those of us who share the same obsession! I recommend buying this book in hardcover as there\\\'s some \\\"magic\\\" in the cover! The author embraces technology and how quickly our reading habits are changing! Without giving it away, I found the solution to the mystery very satisfying.
