My Reviews
We thought the book was a great jumping off point for the discussion of stem cell research, and the rise of the conservative political movement that we see today . We all agreed that the book was not well developed, but was an interesting story and a great springboard for discussion.
Couldn't put it down, it was captivating !
I loved the way the book portrayed all the issues, but didn't bring them to conclusion. You really had to think about how you felt about each and every issue it raised.
I was intrigued by the premise of this book, even though it was written for 5 th grade and up.
The themes are so universal, both heartbreaking and uplifting at the same time. Also very true to life, no sugar coating for kids here. Should be mandatory reading to help kids understand how to deal with differences in their classmates, and how as adults we can help them understand.
one of the comments many members had was that there were so many characters it was hard to keep them straight. one of our members actually created a flow chart of characters. but through our discussion we felt we better understood the provocative themes that were woven through the book and enjoyed the book even more.
