My Reviews
With a story like this, I would expect to care about the characters and what happens, to be outraged and relieved. I got none of that. Written as reportage, it was a bit boring.
I heard so much about this book, I couldn't wait to read it. I must say, it was very disappointing. I went with the whole idea for a while, but then it just got ridiculous and the ending was so absurd I almost threw it across the room. Not good enough to be believable, or convincing enough to be willing to suspend disbelief. A total waste of time.
While there was nothing terribly wrong with this book, it was a bit of a snooze. The characters and their motivations were unconvincing. I didn't care about any of them and forgot about it all as soon as I finished.
I really enjoyed this book. Though parts were predictable, it was so interesting to follow this family on their Alaskan adventure. Many characters are larger than life but felt real based on the environment and times. It was hard to put down and was ultimately satisfying.
