My Reviews
Our group agreed it was hard to get "into" this book, but we agreed that it was inspiring. It had so dark humor, and some really dark and low points for many characters. At the end, almost everyone was shocked and a little disapointed. However, after about two or three days, we started to really, really, really appreciate the book's message. We saw its influence easily.
Read it. Give it three days. Then, reflect.:)
Poirot, Ms. Marple, Sherlock, and now, maybe, Strike
A dark, graphic, and creatively twisted story.
We thought that it had a lot of great twists, and we enjoyed the flow and ease of the language. It was a relatively quick and intense read.
This book did a fine job bringing Frankenstein up to date (it is set in the 1980s, but it still wasn't too outdated for most of us). We liked the cat vs mouse plot, and the characters are well written.
Our book club was pretty evenly split between loving it and being heart broken. We all enjoyed the humor. We could relate to Bridget, and we felt that this book sparked more interesting questions for us to discuss during our meeting.
This was a great book and our WINners loved it. Unanimously loved it. It was clever, funny, sad, sweet, touching, gross, and everything in between. We had a great discussion because there was so much to cover.
The WINers' found this book to be fun, fast, and a great discussion starter. We were a little divided about whether or not Don was capable of change, but everyone agreed that it was an inspiring book about change.
The second Strike detective novel was suspenseful, twisted, dark, funny, and insightful. The reader gets a glimpse into the world of publishing, and sees the darker side of the literary world.
Our book club enjoyed the novel, liked the characters, and loved the chance to compare JKR\\\'s work through the years.
Our book club is made up of mostly 30 and 40 year olds. We liked Friendship\\\'s topics, but it was a little difficult for us to sympathize with these very characters. Some of us loved it, and some of us sort of liked it.
This book will spark conversation for ANY book club. This is a story of sisters, war, family, choices, luxury and survival, and everything in between.
