My Reviews

The Other Boleyn Girl by Philippa Gregory

Interesting, Dramatic, Informative
Story of Mary Boleyn and her better-known sister, Anne

A great, addictive read. Could barely put it down and really loved the character of Mary. Found the characters to be very multi-dimensional and a very timely book given the popularity of The Tudors on Showtime right now. Everyone in our book club loved the book (all women). Really gave an insight into the time period that I loved, even though I'm not much of a history buff. We didn't have a very elaborate discussion and I'm not sure if this is because we all agreed that we loved it or if there is just not a lot to discuss.

Moloka'i: A Novel by Alan Brennert

Informative, Inspiring, Interesting
Great character development, complex story, covers the full spectrum of emotional experience -- recommend!

The Black Book by Orhan Pamuk

Painful Read

Only one in 8 of our members finished the book. Pamuk's writing is very self-indulgent, difficult to follow, not engaging. I just didn't like it at all. I was excited to read a mystery written by a top-notch author but it wasn't much of a mystery and I couldn't stand his writing style.
