My Reviews
Our bookclub loved this book but hated how it ended. It was such an eyeopener about the American Indians and their culture.
This book was long and had a lot of detailed descriptions in it but the overall story was intriging and you had to finish it to see how the author and his wife come out in the end--how old are they or what part of their life is the ending??
my daughter recomended this book to our bookclub. It is quite the story of a boy's childhood friendship in Afghanistan and how current events can affect those around you and the eventual outcome of your own life
our club really enjoyed this book. I listened to it on cd and enjoyed the main character being read by 2 different men depending on the age in the book. Marcia
We liked this book and found it engaging until the end. Similar in ways of Gone Girl, but much less disturbing.
I had a hard time getting into the story. I read to page 60 something and the main character had not showed up yet. Too confusing. I found some scenes disturbing. Several other members of my bookclub felt the same way. Some of the things said about the US in the book really bothered me.
Our bookclub loved this book and storyline. Interesting story between Victoria and Lord Melbourne.
We really liked this book. It opened our eyes to events that we were unaware of.
This book was eye-opening to events that are relatively unknown to most Americans. These women were brave.
Our bookclub found this a difficult read. The first 1/2 was Karen's experience in NY and theater. The events she wrote about were very detailed and long. People were named like we should know them. The book picked up when she wrote about Little House but we were more familiar with this and tv in general. She never spoke about her marriage that resulted in her son. The book just seemed to stop suddenly
The story is an interesting look at prostitution in the 1860’s but halfway through there is a twist. After that I could not put the book down and I read until I finished the book—2AM on a Saturday night. Based on a true story just adds to the intrigue.
