My Reviews
This is a book you can't put down once you have started it. I love how the author intertwines the characters and then pulls the storylines together and brings closure at the end. I definitely recommend to other book clubs.
A great whodunnit. This book reads smoothly and keeps you guessing to the very end.
This was a most enlightening fiction concerning a very real part of North Carolina's history. Author did a fantastic job with developing characters and viewpoints. We enjoyed it very much.
It is not necessary to have read Zafron's two previous books in this group called the Cemetary of Forgotten Books, as they stand alone. However, the mystery and intrigue are so addictive that I stopped reading when I had 10 more pages to go because I didn't want the story to end. It doesn't really end as there is plenty yet for Zafron to put into another novel. You will love the characters Daniel and Fermin. You will exclaim aloud at the twists and turns in this novel Happy reading!
This is a book that makes you marvel at the author's ability to weave a story that is compelling and mysterious. Liane Moriarty doesn't fail to produce page-turners.
I love Anna Quindlen but this story was really predictable--still worth the read though.
This book is so eloquently written, I was so sorry to see it end. Beautiful descriptions. Articulate conversations. I wish we spoke as well in this day and age.
I couldn't put this book down. I feel as if I am a slow reader but I read this book in one day. It is very nicely written and the suspense stays with you from beginning to end. A must read for mystery lovers!
A most eloquently written work of literature. I did not want the book to end. Each page is beautifully written. I can't recommend this book often enough. A true work of art in language.
The deep dark secrets turn out not to be so deep and dark but rather troubles people normally go through. It wasn't the huge surprise drama that I thought it would be. The ending sort of petered out....although it left room for a sequel.
I found this subject rather hard to read about. The author does such a wonderful job recreating the children's experience that I often had to put the book down and walk away. Knowing that this place actually existed and that these children were treated in this way was disturbing. Lisa Wingate tackles a difficult subject with a well written novel.
It's hard to believe that Emma Healey is a young woman. She captures what it must be like to live with Alzheimers in such a way that you believe you are the main character with all the confusion and sudden awareness of an actual person with dementia. Wonderful job and worthy of the Costa award.
Someone should have tackled this event long ago. The 1936 tornado of Tupelo, Miss. This book follows two families in the aftermath: one white and one black. Very compelling read. I could not put this book down and would recommend for all socially conscious book groups.
This was a spy novel to read in one day as the suspense is overwhelming. Very well written with a cast of characters that you will think about long after the book is finished.
This book was very slow in the beginning but I am glad that I stuck with it. Very deep thoughts about what we bring into our lives from our parents and grandparents. The second half of the book was riveting as we race toward answers to questions the first half of the book raises.
a moving and mesmerizing account of what it must have been like for women to take books into the wilderness of Kentucky in an effort to educate and entertain. The book is a compelling story of a few of these women and the hardships they endured in life as well as on the mountain trails.
I loved each and every essay in the book and could not stop reading once I began. I have read all of Patchett's work and this was by far my favorite......
I thought I knew where this story was going but I was so pleasantly surprised by the twiists and turns. I read it in one day. Was hard to put down.
I bought this for my 14 year old granddaughter and ended up reading it and enjoying it tremendously. The risks taken to save thousands during the war continue to amaze me even as the courageous are younger and younger!
This book was a quick read but a slow digestion. The storyline left much to be considered about abuse of unwed mothers in Ireland. I thought about it days after finishing. Would highly recommend.
David Grann's research is apparent in this book as he takes the reader along for a perilous ride around the cape!
Perhaps because this happened in my lifetime, I had a hard time putting this book down. I finished it at 2a.m. and bawled my eyes out. I still remember seeing the Vietnam memorial for the first time. I call this a historical novel and one that will move you no matter your age.
