My Reviews
I could not put this one down... definitely neglected my family for a while on vacation though fortunately it is a quick read! The characters kept me guessing and the plot twists really made you think. At book club, we all would have strong opinions about a character and then you'd have to think about whether they were even accurate based on the point of view of the story teller... Very interesting if not a little far fetched!!
Unbroken is intense. Hillenbrand really has a knack for writing non-fiction in an easy, story-like manner and this was no different. So well written and researched. It was a quick read despite it's length. Not an easy read only because the material was so heavy. I'm fascinated with WW2 and have read a lot about it, but this was my first real exposure into the Pacific and it was really fascinating but a little traumatizing too. The characters are gripping and just amazing human beings and their plight makes you realize just how resilient people can be.
This is a page turner. Enjoyed the story and the plot twists; kept me guessing for a while! One challenge with the book is that the dates jump around which is sometimes hard to follow (on a kindle anyway). Overall, I really enjoyed it!
Our book club won copies of Watching Edie, and we were excited to read it. It did not disappoint. The book was well-written, and suspenseful. None of us were able to guess the plot twist which is always fun. There were a lot of questions in the reading guide which prompted some excellent dialogue. The characters were deep, relatable, and well developed. The narration changes between time and character, but the author does it well. We were all left wanting a little bit more at the end!
