My Reviews
I bought this book on a whim as it was a Barnes and Noble selection from my Nook. I was hooked from the first chapter. I devoured this book in 3 days which for me with a full time job was not an easy feat (much loss of sleep). I loved the characters, the story everything about it just pulled me in. I then learned that it had a second book, A Shadow of Night, which I promplty bought and ate that one up in as many days. I am now trapped in limbo as I wait this fabulous authors 3rd installment. Much to my delight it has been purchased by Warner Brothers and will be soon made into a movie. This is a smart, intellegent take on a vampire - witch love story with lots of depth and feeling. I have already hooked 4 of my friends on it and if you like this genre or are at least open to it, I think you will love it as much as I do!!
Not what I expected...more story than science. I grew to care about the Lacks family and their understanding of their mothers contribution to the world of medicine and science. Some real life questions about the proper use of my tissueand blood samples. Great book club read.
Above all struggles in life there is always family. Sarah Addison Allen plant a wonderful story of two sisters seperated by choice brought back together by faith. I loved each character. They had depth, strength and heart. Read this book.
Another winner by Sarah Addison Allen. Can Hummingbird Cake really mend a broken heart? This is my favorite book of 2012.
Friendships that can endure are rare and magical. Ms. Allen tells the tale of four women and their friendships across multiple decades. Wonderful story another amazing read.
A red sweater, a grilled cheese sandwich and a closet full of surprises. This book has become one of my favorite books of all time. Inspiring, funny, sad and joyous. The charactets are written in a way that makes you feel like they are family. You root for them, you feel their struggles. Read this you wont regret it.
Well written, deep with graphic visions of your surroundings it transports you to a magical place full of wonder. Characters are wonderful and would recommend this book to everyone. It can be confusing with the back and forths in time...just keep track!!!!
The Ivy Book Club - Frederick Maryland,
The consensus was the same - disappointed! Too many characters - and no one for us to root for. Everyone was morally corrupt and without any redeeming qualities. You kept waiting and hoping that one of these people would rise above the rest but none did. It ended with no resolution and no hope that there would be any resolution for these people. We were left feeling “wanting”.
I really enjoyed the story - but it was hard sometimes to connect with the main character and her decisions where hard to swallow. Wish the author had ended it in a more uplifting way.
Elizabeth writes a great story. Her characters have depth, they are smart and sexy. Her story has twists and turns and is a great thrill ride. Dialog is clever and well written. You will be hooked - there are many spin offs all with the same underlying mystery that never fails to grab you suck you in. I am hooked.
A Love Triangle of epic proportions, a modern woman thrown into a dangerous and threatening time, her main goal - get home to her husband - but when she is thrown into an unexpected marriage, one that will ultimately keep her safe she falls for what readers consider her true soul mate. Love, Danger, and with the beautiful back drop of Scotland and the impending fall of their independence and way of life on the eve of Culledon.
