My Reviews
I thoroughly enjoyed this book as did my entire book club. Although the story of her lost twin doesn't seem compelling, her relationship with an extraordinary woman like Vida Winter, is what gives this story depth. Ms. Setterfield does an excellent job of developing the characters but also manages to create a mystery.
Weiner is always funny but I found this book to be disappointing. While her observations of staying at home with 3 small children are entirely accurate and entertaining, the overall story seemed weak and the ending unsatisfying.
When this book was suggested I was very reluctant to read it, having virtually no religious background. But when a book is written this well it doesn't matter. Hands down, one of our book club's all time favorites.
A thought provoking, yet thoroughly enjoyable read. Some of us were skeptical given the biblical setting but once we started reading we all fell in love with Dinah and Diamont's writing. I recommend it to everyone I know.
Kathryn Stockett takes you right into all that makes up Jackson, MS in 1962. The tension and the moral angst that constituted that time in our history and she does it through the eyes of affecting characters. I felt respect, empathy, and anger. Brilliantly written and a captivating read.
This book was pure pleasure to read. It is clever and thoughtful and you immediately fall in love with Flavia, the 11 year old heroine.I really enjoyed the development of the characters and the humor. I can't wait to read the next one in the series. What a refreshing change from everything that is out there right now.
