Sashenka: A Novel by Simon Sebag Montefiore

Scary, Dramatic, Brilliant
I was spellbound

The story is very haunting and takes you into history. It is so well-written that I couldn't put it down. And then it stays with you. I don't want to put a spoiler but I highly recommend reading it. It makes for a great book club discussion.

Gone Girl: A Novel by Gillian Flynn

Disappointed

Part 1 was really slow but catches your interest towards it's end as the story and characters are built up.
Part 2 was very interesting and well written.
Part 3 was very disappointing. The ending could have have been different.

The Butterfly's Daughter by Mary Alice Monroe

The Butterfly's Daughter

It is light reading and informative about Monarch butterflies and traditions. I also enjoyed the experiences and the characters but I feel the book is short of the right emotions. It was just happy path all the way but based on some of the settings and situations, you would expect some challenges for the main character but that never happens. When it does, it is dealt with it very lightly. So I'd say the book lacked the emotional depth it was actually set up to do.

Bring Up the Bodies by Hilary Mantel

Bringing up the bodies

Just couldn't get through the book because it was very dry and boring.
