Finding strength on the PCT

A great story of a woman's strength after she hits bottom and decides that walking the Pacific Crest Trail alone will help her to put her life back together.

A very well written book

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It was well written and gave insight into the day-to-day lives of Hungarian Jews who had to endure so many hardships and indignities to survive during the Nazi era.

Page turner

I had trouble putting this one down. Characters were well developed and true to life.

Interesting character study

This was a fascinating look into the psyche of one of America's most infamous (and popular!) bank robbers. It was an easy read and quite a page turner, with a surprising twist at the end. Great book!

Honest and insightful generational memoir

The Polio Journals is an honest, first-hand account of a family's insistent denial of the impact polio had on all their lives. It also offers insight into societal attitudes of the time, well before the disabilities rights movement began. This book will open the eyes of many people about the struggles (both physical and psychological) of those with disabilities, and encourage people to acknowledge rather than minimize those struggles. In this fascinating memoir author Anne Gross has clearly shown the harm that can result when we do otherwise. The book follows the author's journey from anger and shame to eventual understanding and forgiveness.

A fun, quirky, light read

This was a nice light read with quirky, interesting characters. Slightly outrageous in parts, funny throughout--a fun book.

A great read

The premise seems a little bizarre, but this is a very insightful book and a fun read. A man takes off on a walk to visit an old friend who is dying of cancer. Along the way he examines his life in terms of his relationships with his son, his wife, and his friend, eventually coming to terms with ghosts that had haunted him for years.

An Epic Historical Novel

This novel explores the birth of abolition and feminism in the early 19th century, with several strong, intelligent women as main characters. It is beautifully written, with great insight into the pressures of society at the time, and how all parties managed to deal with it in their own way. A very worthwhile read.

Where'd you go Bernadette?

This is a very funny book at times, but ultimately seemed too frivolous to make it a worthwhile read. The scenarios were too bizarre and unrealistic for me. Also the literary devices used in writing the book resulted in it being very confusing to follow the story.

A fun, light read

A little bit of history and a little bit of mystery--a young woman searches for her birth mother and in doing so learns a lot about history and the meaning of "family."

Very Depressing Read

Although some parts were interesting, this book was very confusing in parts, I assume to give the reader a sense of the inner mind of someone with mental illness. In the end, it was just too depressing. The message seemed to be that, not only is a person with mental illness doomed to a miserable, hopeless life, but he drags his entire family into the abyss.
