My Reviews
Well written novel set mostly in Washington at the beginning of the Civil War. Well done historical fiction, nicely rendered characters and plot development that keeps you interested.
Gail Tsukiyama writes a good sentence, but this book was slow and a bit frustrating in that no conflict or drama never developed. It felt like the author chose not to engage with all of the potential excitement that she hinted at.
I really enjoyed this book. I loved the way the story unfolded and the suspenseful aspect of this family drama. I also appreciated the way the narrator evolved and through her own telling of her story. And the writing is clear and well done. A quick and interesting read without being glib or fluffy.
