My Reviews
A beautiful reminder of the gift that reading is and can be to each and every one of us. It is a way to connect and reconnect with people in ways we may have not thought possible. We can learn so much from one another through the amazing dialogue that shared reading can create. I think this a wonderful book for book clubs. I thoroughly enjoyed the author and his mother\\\'s insight on the many books our club has already read, and I was also able to make a wish list of books to read and recommend to others.
Everyone in our book club loved this book and was very moved by the story. We thoroughly enjoyed the historical perspective of the Orphan Trains - something many of us knew very little about. We also had a wonderful discussion about adoptions and foster care. The main characters are so well developed that as reader your are so emotionally committed to them and their stories. Beautifully written.
The books was a bit slow moving at time and goes in to a lot of details about each daughter and their relationships over many years. The pace picked up towards the end and I was astonished to learn about the regime in the country at the time and the strength of the people, especially the Maribel sisters, to bring about necessary change.
