My Reviews
This is an incredible book about Sudanese refugees. It is written as Valentino Achak Deng's memoior as told by Dave Eggers. The writing is captivating and the story astonishing. A great read for book clubs!
This is a beautiful story about how people in a crisis communicate when the only common language is music. It is incredibly moving, although I was thrown by the ending.
My book club did not enjoy this book. It's an interesting story, but poorly written. The author does not have enough faith in her readers and felt the need to explain all of her analogies and methaphors.
My book club thoroughly enjoyed this book. All of the characters are infuriating, thought provoking, and you can relate to all of them dispite their many, many flaws.
My book club loved On Beauty. All of the characters are infuriating, thought provoking, and you find yourself relating to each of them despite their many, many flaws.
My book club raved about this book! It was so beautiful and interesting. When we finished we all felt like we wanted to start over again in order to better understand the story and the characters. It's very interesting to see some of the similarities between this book and books by Jonathan Saffron Foer, Nicole Krauss's husband. I highly recommend this book! It's a great read and lends itself well to a group discussion.
My book club really enjoyed this book. The characters are all flawed in their own way and it makes for a great discussion. It's a quick read and an interesting take on success and failure.
I have read this book twice and loved it both times. The writing and layout of the book is incredible. You really feel like you are a part of Oskar's journey throughout the city of New York. This book is so emotional and feels so honest; I would laugh out after reading one page and cry after reading the next.
Most of my book club loved this book. I had mixed feelings about it. It was a great book for discussion, but I felt that the details I really wanted to know about the story were left. The story lends itself well to a discussion on medical ethics.
I absolutely loved this book! It's a beautiful story and great for discussion. I have recommended Peace Like a River to several friends. There is something truly magical about this book.
