My Reviews
This book is very dependent on who the reader is... as a group we felt that we could have benefited by more character development. As much as we learned a lot about hiking the PCT trail we didn't feel we were able to capture the true Cheryl and what drew her to the trail to begin with, and why she was so self-destructive.
Good Fiction novel based on the mayan belief that the world will end on 12/21/2012. Strong character novel, interesting, and suspenseful. However the end was a little unbelievable
Amazing character development; Donoghue keeps you hoping for a "happy ever after" through a five year olds eyes. For some this may be to disturbing, but the story portrays the strength of motherhood, and how children can add hope to our lives that allows adult to endure life changing challenges.
The author did an amazing job of bringing separate family members lives together through different avenues, which ends in a natural plateau.
O'reilly provided answers to many questions surrounding the assassination of Abe Lincoln, but also leaves you thinking if there was more to it! Fast read
Strong character development leads to the success of this book. Beautifully written about life\\\\\\\'s second chances, and the need to let go of secrets at ones death.
Fast read, Lisa does a good job of making you think you know what is happening, but do you????
Strong beliefs are important to an individuals psyche, but can those beliefs lead to your demise. Beautiful Mystery is well written with great character development. Our book club enjoyed the story and learning about the life of a monk.
THE AUTHOR WAS SUCCESSFUL AT INTERTWINING MANY SMALL STORIES INTO ONE BIG STORY. PLANTATION LIFE DRAMA. LOVED THE NARRATIVE BETWEEN BELLE AND LAVANIA. YOU WILL WANT MORE
Hosseini gives you several examples of life decisions that can be wrong doing or good doing... depending on an individuals ethics, morals, etc. A real thinker!! You will ask yourself what you would have done.
Our book club was split 50;50 on whether to recommend. Members either loved the book, or found it very challenging to get through. If you are a history buff you will love this one. Larson does a good job of taking excerpts from various documents and combining to make cohesive story about the rise of Hilter and how the US had opportunities to stop the maddness. On the flip side Larson does provide a lot of information, which at times can be challenging if you don't read the book for a period of tiime.
Exploration of Indian (India) culture, relationships and how decisions we make effect others. Amazingly well written book. Lahiri\\\'s character detail allows you to feel their emotions.
The hard reality of life when desperation sets in!! You never know what you will or can do until you ABSOLUTELY have too! Not a book for everyone!
The author takes you on an adventure through a man's life journey; which reminds us how what appears on the outside isn't always what is on the inside; Heart warming story
Many of our members had a challenging time finishing; it is not a fast read. However, I believe that the ones that did not finish were encouraged to do so by the ones that did by the end of our discussion. Provides insight into the life of a spy, and how tough it is to stay focused on the goal.
Our book club enjoyed The Lake House. Alice and Eleanor are very strong interesting woman, who we all learned something from. We all fell in love with Loueannth!
Author's use of emails/texts helped to make the book more curious. Minimum character development. Would have like to get to know some of the characters a little better. Plot was a surprise.
Our group found the format interesting where the event happens and then there is back and forth between the investigation and back group on the characters; Most of the characters were interesting but the overall book we found to be ho hum .
A few of us loved the book , and found the African slave trade history interesting, but the majority of our club found it very confusing and with two many characters and the back in forth between families was hard to follow
13 members gave this book an 8 or better on a scale of 1 to 10. We found Kate Quinn's character development exceptional, and fell in love with Eve, Charlie, and of course Finn (Scottish gent) Loved the way Quinn used historical characters and events to weave her tale. Display of strength and courage
Well written story about the good vs evil when children are taken from their home and adopted.
Wingate made al the characters come to life; We loved Rill/May!
Hint- you need to make it past the first 80 pages; Then it will all become clear; Well written prose surrounding the river and how life compares. Our club fell in love with many of the characters. The author does an amazing job of putting everything beautifully together. Our club had a great discussion.
Gilbert takes us on a page turning journey of NYC and the dancing/theatre era of the 1940-50's. Story of how survival, sex, friends and love all intertwine. Good read!!
Story of a small town pub who help a victim of 9/11 recover from the drama. Insight into how individuals who are so different our able to find a common ground. Story of dedication and resilience.
The historical basis of the novel was good, and had a lot of potential but the modern love story was extremely predictable. Also the characters were under developed. Wanted/needed to know more about who they were.
well written story about individuals who aren't always comfortable in their own skin, and the lengths they will go to be something else.
