My Reviews
I think the characters were developed nicely, and it was easy to connect with some of them. I also like the historic aspects such as the explosion of the munitions ship in Halifax Harbor, and the union issues as well as the stock market crash of 1929.
I liked the perspective from which this story is written. This book is sad for several reasons. Very well written.
There is much that happens in this book as it moves variously back and forth through time. This book prompts much thought about what it means to be a friend. Excellent read.
I liked the book, but some in our book club never read it after reading the jacket, hence, the recommendation reservation.
The book has plenty of twists and suspense to keep the reader interested. A fun read.
I can't say that I liked this book, but don't regret reading it. The writing in the form of letters from Eva to Franklin unfolded the background years before Kevin killed 9 people slowly and kept me focused on "what next". I do feel that the book was longer than necessary in order to produce the same result.
My recommendation with reservations reflects the horrifying and, I feel, evil nature of Kevin, and there are some readers who would be turned off by that (including one or two members of our book club.
Excellent book in its subject matter, development. Thought provoking. Generated a great deal of discussion.
I would recommend the book to other book clubs only if they read mostly light fiction. The subject is a serious one, but treated in a very light way; this makes the focus of the story more about personalities, rather than the subject of teen pregnancy and what to do about it.
