My Reviews
Seeing as how I don't have enough years left to read 1001 more books that someone else thinks I need to read, I would say that I found many of the selections less than inspiring and rather archaic. However, since I have spent my whole life reading no less than 20 books per year and as many as 75, I would have to say that there are books I found to be worthy of being printed in a more updated book such as this. I realize that many of the older books listed here have value to an intellectual, but I find that they do not mesh well with a person who loves reading for the sake of reading a good book. I would rather read a mediocre book that can keep my interest than read a book that takes me forever because I just can't muster any enthusiasm for it. This is an interesting volume to add to one's library, and even though I personally don't rate it highly, I can see where it would be of some value to other readers.
I wasn't too sure about this book before I read it because I had not heard anything about it. My mind was quickly changed. By the time I reached Chapter 8, I could not put the book down for more than an hour. I absolutely had to find out what was happening next. I wanted to get to the end, but I didn't want the book to end. I wanted more. When I am left wanting more, I consider a book to be very successful.
I felt that the book was extremely well-written and found that I was looking forward to reading more by this author. I very much liked the fact that the story deals with a current issue that needs to have conversations in order for people to understand it.
This book definitely affords that opportunity and can act as a catalyst to spur such conversations in the future. No matter how you feel, this will help to open our eyes to understand why this is an important topic in today's world.
I believe a person should have the right to make choices concerning their lives as long as it doesn't hurt others in a dangerous way. This book helped me to open my eyes about something I wasn't sure about. It helped me to look at it from another angle. Even though I was hoping for a particular outcome, it allowed me to better understand a situation I was not personally familiar with.
After finishing this book, I could not stop talking about it and recommended it to anyone who would take the time to listen to me.
When my book group chose this book, I was not thrilled about the choice. However, after reading it, I found that I loved it. It was interesting, inspiring, thought-provoking, and showed a side of history that one wouldn't ordinarily consider.
The book was well-written and informative. It drove me to want to move on to the next page to discover what would happen next. It filled me with wonder at the strength of women in general and the and the main character in particular.
Regrettably, I loaned this book to a fellow worker who never returned it, so now, years after reading it, I find that I can't recall many of the details. I do remember, though, that I found it to be a very good read, especially since I liked it enough to want to loan it to another avid reader.
I loved this book from the first page all the way through to the end. The characters were well-developed and relatable. Even though I couldn't personally relate to the time period other than what I had learned in history, I found the characters and situations to be very well described and feasible.
I personally could never steal a book, but thanks to libraries, it isn't even an issue in this country. However, I do understand how important it was to the main character in this book and didn't look down on her a single iota. It was understandable and maybe even acceptable under the circumstances of the times.
