My Reviews
To a person, everyone in our book club was disappointed with this book. Because the author of the Kite Runner had given it a glowing recommendation, we were anxious to read it. We found it dreary, pointless and without much merit.
The story wasn\\\'t very compelling. The lack of character development hindered the plot.
When I started reading this book I was astounded that people were raving about it. After 100 pages or so, the story had a sea change and became riveting. I really enjoyed the story, and know that it is going to create lots of discussion at my book club.
A great book for discussion: is it men against the women? Who is really in charge? Is she a social climber?
I enjoyed the story: it was a woman\'s realization that she was in control of her destiny.
I am fascinated by stories of India. Their way of life is so different than ours - better or worse? I couldn't say.
Members of the group felt that the main idea of the book was true and believable. There was little/no scientific to back up the ideas in the book. We were in agreement that the premise was accurate.
This book lays out our misconceptions about healthcare and hospice care at end of life. This is a must read for anyone that plans on dying.
I was disappointed in this book. It read like a Ladies Home Journal article. There was no depth to it. The cast of characters was HUGE. I believe that if the book had focused in on just a few of the wives and given us a more in-depth look at their lives it would have been more satisfying.
There was so much detail! Not a fun read:interesting, but not compelling.
This was an excellent book for discussion. Especially pertinent given today's political climate. It gives immigration a whole new twist.
I thought that this book presented an alternative view of the afterlife. I was pleased to find it uplifting without being sappy.
