Novel on what some people are willing to risk for a chance at the "American Dream". Very good book. Ending leaves something to be desired--I hated the ending!
Excellent, sad story about a teenage girl who leaves home with her African-American nanny (whom she frees from jail) in search of something from her mother's past. A story about finding love from a girl who never feels loved by her abusive, neglectful father. Will have you laughing and crying with Kidd's use of language and descriptive images.
An autistic boy sets out to discover who murdered his neighbor's dog. The boy lives with his father after his own mother's death. In the search to find the murderer, the boy stumbles onto other information as well. Makes you appreciate being able to hug your own children!
How Jeannette Walls cannot be bitter at how she grew up is beyond me! It simply amazes me to read about how much this girl went through growing up & how her parents could call themselves parents! Truly an amazing book I couldn't put it down.
Not as good as The Secret Life of Bees, but an excellent book just as well. Full of imagery like Bees.
Wonderful thriller book that will be hard to put down.
Like "The Lake of Dead Languages", this is another page-turner that you will not be able to put down!
Interesting details of circus life in the 1930's during the depression. Many of the stories contained within are drawn from real life. Very interesting plot, hard to put down. Great read.
Great and interesting book about a family ripped apart by mental illness and child abuse as a result of the mental illness. Judy Gregerson spent 7 years writing this book and it shows. How she had the insight into writing this book is just amazing to me.
This book was wonderfully written. Amazingly sad book about a young couple having their first child. The father, who is a doctor, has to deliver his own baby due to a horrible snow storm. His wife ends up having twins. The boy in fine, the girl has the visible signs of downs. The doctor makes a split-second decision to send his daughter away to spare his wife and his son the pain of raising a child with downs. He has the best intentions at heart, but his decision slowly eats away at him and his family. Gut-wrenching story about regret, redemption, and unintentionally hurting those you love. I loved this book.
Heart breaking story of a girl and the horrible things her birth father does to her thus causing her teenage troubles later in life which this story focuses on. A mother's struggle to save her daughter's life. Wonderfully written book!
A great collection of wonderfully written, quirky short stories from the late Lucy Grealy.
Another great read from Joshilyn Jackson.
Great story about the author's hardships of growing up. This child went through more hardships than any one person should ever have to endure during an entire lifetime. Amazingly, the author is unskathed from it all and chooses to share these stories in this amazing read you will find hard to put down.
I think this story comes straight from the pages of Nicole Richie's life...even though the book is a novel. I read this book trying to figure out if the main character, Chloe Parker, was supposed to be Nicole or not.
A magician's assistant finds out her magician's secrets after his death. Full of unexpected plot points. A great read by Ann Patchett.
Great read by Ann Patchett. I did not understand the ending however, as the story seems to go back and forth between two different scenes. I enjoyed the story, just wished I understood the ending better!
Wonderful story which unfolds like a dream. Unexpected ending. Patchett uses wonderful descriptions through out this story.
Lovely story about a young pregnant mother who sets out for St. Elizabeth's home for unwed mothers...but Rose is wed to a man she runs away from once she realizes that she is not in love with him. I initally liked Rose, but by the end of the story I did not because of the way she pushed everyone in her life that loved her away from her. Great read! I think this is Patchett's greatest novel, not Bel Canto as everyone else says.
This book was almost hard for me to get through. It took me months to finish just because it did not really peak my interest much. It is divided into three portions, and I found that the last third of the book was the part that I liked the best.
Would recommend this book. It was a very interesting book and story. Easy read...I sat down and read this book in one evening. Very eye-opening story that is heart breaking in many parts.
I loved this book. Most of it takes place over 24 hours with many unexpected little plot twists and turns. A wonderfully created story about how peoples' lives are intertwined.
I loved this newest book by Joshilyn Jackson. Unexpected turn of events. Full of little plot twists and turns that Jackson is so good at! This was a page turner...I read this book in two days!
I love Carol Goodman novels! This one is full of twists and turns like her other novels. The ending is unexpected. Will not be able to put this book down!
Wonderfully written novel surrounding the mess in Afghanistan and the surrounding areas today. Puts into perspective what these peoples are going through and the hardships that they have to indure just to survive. Especially the hardships of the women and how their lives have little value in this part of the world. Highly recommended story.
