My Reviews
Overall, a very good read, and our group (a majority of which are teachers) wished they had read this years ago in terms of understanding issues they face in teaching children with autism. There are quite a few characters in the book and it was somewhat hard to keep track of them, this was a very insightful, interesting book. There were a few loose ends that we didn't feel got tied up, but overall, we really enjoyed it.
The author's style of writing we didn't like, as it was kind of tedious to read. A few of us have read some of her other works and felt those books as well were sluggish to get through.
This book reveals humans at their basest element and it was a stark, horrifying, heart-wrenching account of the brutality and almost incomprehensible evil of man. It revealed, uncomfortably at times, the desparate need to survive and I think it is important this story be told and taught over and over again, so that our generation, and future generations don't ever forget the horror of the Holocaust.
I especially liked the new translation with the forward, and acceptance speech for the nobel peace prize.
