My Reviews

This book opens the door for an excellent discussion

Upon reading this book, I realized how much animals are part of a family. In our discussons we all reflected on aninmals and their influence on our thoughts and behaviors today as adults. Do Animals have souls? Much time and discussion was given to this question. Is there a way we will ever be able to confirm our answers? Our group was left with many thoughts to reflect upon. The Good, Good Pig is a little book but it teaches many values. It is an excellent book for group discussion. Linda Johnson, Hacienda Page Turners

In discussion, many interesting thoughts, questions, and comments were brought out by the members of our club.

Our club which consists of various ages and backgrounds found this book to be quite stimulating. Our discussion was excellent. We felt the character became her own person by the end of the story. For the year that the book took place, being an independent woman is not the norm. We also discussed the difference in our lives as compared to hers. We all felt we wanted a second book to be written because there were a lot of things we felt we needed to have an ending to. Do they ever find the gold?

Sarah's Key

This is a time in our History that is not talked about much less taught. I traveled to Poland and visited Auschwitz. What terrible things were done to others. This book talks about the children and how France participated in this terrible part of our history.

On Hitler's Mountain

This gave a view of a family who lived close to Hitler and his home. Great information on feelings, emotions, struggles and beliefs of a German family.

Memoirs of an Imaginary Friend

A book that is very informative. One that I would read to a classroom of children so that may grasp a better understanding of Autism. I would however leave out or change some of the words to fit the age group.

The Goldfinch

The book was too long. The author could of left certain parts out or said them in less words. Everyone in our bookclub got bored with it. Some scanned the last 200 pages while others did not finish the book

Where'd You Go, Bernadette

We had much discussion on the personality of each character and how they were related too by the other characters. We had a few questions about what happens to these relationships with each other in the end. Most all of the club members enjoyed the book.

Great story. Well liked by the whole group. This book was the best discussion book this year. Lots of deep thinking.
