My Reviews
A wonderful read, giving a feel for life in Afghanistan although fiction. Our group rates the books we read from 1-5, five being highest, and it was rated a 4.5.
Nonfiction story about a wealthy art dealer and a homeless man. The relationship was the urging of the art dealer's wife. The book gives insight to the feelings of the homeless towards those attempting to help them as well as those of the helpers.
Took a long time to get into it - read rather like a text book. Some interesting characters, though, especially Martha, the ambassador's daughter.
Enjoyable to those who like history, and WWII information.
A fun read about a bookseller who finds himself left with a baby who wraps herself around his heart quickly.
Funny at times with a few unexpected twists. Our book group gave it a 4.75 of 5 rating. An easy read.
Thoroughly enjoyed reading this book! It is interesting to see the change that comes over Otto as he travels with Rimpoche to North Dakota, introducing him to the United States. Very humorous at times!
The true story of an American 7th grade girl who chooses a pen pal in Zimbabwe, and how their lives are changed. In reading the story one becomes aware of how very fortunate we are in America, and how lives elsewhere can be very different, yet resilient.
Very informative about the Lusitania and the German submarines. Also the descriptions about the passengers and their thoughts and fears as they traveled the ocean kept interest. Our book group rated the book a 3.5 out of 5, 5 being high.
A young girl is sent from India to live with her uncle in England after her parents died. She discovers a new world in which to grow, and helps her sickly cousin gain health. How she goes from a self-absorbed little girl to a cheerful, outgoing one makes a wonderful story.
It was written with many twists and turns. There were places I was telling the character, "No, don't do that!" It was a book hard to put down! I wanted to know who the murderer was.
A group of 10 people read, then discussed the book. Rating from 1-5, 5 being high, the group came up with a 4.5. Although one knows they win the 36 Olympic Gold, the getting there is a terrific story, giving insight into the lives of people in the early 30's.
A wonderful book that shows how we can affect other lives by a single action. We are indeed all interconnected!
Our book group chose to read it a second time as it had been quite a while. It was very funny and well written.
I enjoyed the book very much. The characters each had differing personalities. It was exciting watching Natalie pull Mort out of his shell. He had been so reluctant to talk with people. Our book group all enjoyed the book and had a lively discussion about the characters and their choices.
